About Urbania Magazine

Urbania Magazine is a community of writers, thinkers, and artists who seek to explore all aspects of our cities through an ideas-driven inquiry.

It is the conviction of the magazine's staff that all components of urbania, whether consciously planned or accidental, can be better understood by contextual analysis across geography, time, and disciplines.

In this spirit, this magazine is offered as a way of mapping the apparent chaos and complexity of the urban environment into order and simplicity. We're trying to figure it all out and pass the knowledge on to anyone who's interested.

About our departments:

Urbania Magazine publishes the following categories of pieces in its pages:

A highly personal reflection on one's experiences. Might contain a thesis, but may be pondered rather than conclusively argued.

A formal exposition on a topic of relevance to Urbania Magazine's charter. Must contain a thesis that is persuasively argued.

An anchor piece that ties an issue together. Must raise a question of fundamental interest to those living in urban centers and answer it comprehensively through carefully researched reporting.

An article that provides a snapshot of urban living, including, but not limited to: fashion, food, wine, interiors, and travel.

An ideas-based criticism of art in performance and creative media. Avoids technical execution details in favor of an analysis of philosophical coherance.

Provides a visual portal through which an idea may be articulated. Must be at least 4 images in length. May be interactive and contain multimedia elements.

A dialog with a person who is recognized as either an influencing force or expert interpreter in an aspect of the urban landscape.
